ILLINI UNION SERVICE ELEVATOR
Subconsultant for the structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for a service elevator used for food service and building operations in the Illini Union. Structural work included providing Elevator Rail supports anchored into existing masonry, new steel lintels at new openings for elevator equipment room, and elevator hoist beam and machine room within the confines of an historic building with attic space limitation. Attic work was done without altering the external roof profile. Project included bringing the elevator hoist and attic level elevator machine room up to current codes, ADA guidelines, and facility standards. MEP work included removal and re-routing of existing mechanical equipment from the elevator shaft, providing machine room ventilation, and sump pump. Electrical upgrades included rerouting of existing lines to comply with Life/Safety requirements. Fire protection included sprinkler heads and smoke detectors tied to the alarm system.
MICRO & NANOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY
Sub-consultant for the structural design related to the installation of new Air Handling Equipment in the existing Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory building. McDonough-Whitlow provided design for supports for new equipment and platform. Project involved non-standard detailing to match multiple levels and avoid existing piping supports.
McDonough-Whitlow, P.C. was the subconsultant for the plumbing and fire protection design for the renovation of a four-story, 121,013 sf historically significant, masonry, academic, and administrative building constructed in 1905. Project included plumbing and ventilation systems, new lighting fixtures, and new accessible toilet fixtures. Fire protection included a fully sprinkled building.
